Etcom's Business Strategy

RFID is a well known technology for many years mainly for: Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) applications for toll roads, animal and livestock management, Access Control, shipping containers, cargo trains management (inter-modal), transportation services mainly for Commercial Vehicle Operations and other automatic control applications.

Most of these applications control high value items, manage electronic payments and reduce waiting inline times. Most existing implementations are specially tailored for very specific customers or applications and involved a significant amount of NRE.

During recent years the basic technologies have developed dramatically as more and more companies offer a large variety of RFID components at affordable prices for comprehensive implementations such as retail, supply chain, production lines, assembly lines, inventory management and many more.

The time has matured for implementing both automatic Total Asset Visibility and automatic Total Accountability, as the basic components are available at a reasonable cost. RFID is the opportunity that “assets” were waiting for, to enable them to automatically “talk” and provide useful information and updated status to the computerized management databases and tools.

Nevertheless, contrary to the large variety of available off the shelf components, the actual number of implementations is still too low especially for medium and small size potential end-users, which are the majority of the market. The main reason for that are the majority of traditional integrators that are reluctant to invest the required resources for developing viable and justified RFID applications.

Etcom RFID has identified, defined and developed for those integrators a line of Application Products.
