Wren Medical Initiates the Use of Active RFID with their State-of-the-art Asset Management Network

Wren Medical Systems, Inc. ( www.wrenmedical.com ), a Chicago area company, is introducing an RFID-based software solution for management of medical devices to health care providers throughout North and Central America.

Wren Medical is employing the use of Active RFID technology to enhance its current software offering by guaranteeing accurate data collection and establishing a clearly defined process for cycling of a medical device from location to utilization to biomedical service history.  RFID technology has proven that by automating data collection the potential for human errors and inconsistencies is eliminated.

Wren Medical has been providing unique software solutions to customers for several years and is currently managing tens of thousands of medical devices for health care providers all over North America. Their system offers a complete solution for asset management by addressing all the following areas:

"We plan to improve significantly the profitability of our operation and that of our customers by implementing a system that provides for automatic and continuously updated visibility and traceability of all devices wherever they are," says Michael Ward, President of Wren Medical Systems, Inc.

Wren Medical has partnered with ETCOM RFID (www.etcom-rfid.com) to come up with the best RFID solution for its application.  ETCOM RFID Ltd. is an Israeli company with expertise in RFID and wireless communications that focuses on the development and implementation of RFID applications for the control and management of transportable assets along the supply chain.  ETCOM RFID researched and tested various RFID solutions to identify the right active tag to meet all the technical and environmental requirements of Wren’s application.  The selected tag contains an independent antenna and battery so it requires no electrical interface with the device and is small enough to fit into the housing of even the smallest device.

“The use of low cost active tags has great potential in asset management, particularly through maintenance cycles,” says Israel Kalman ETCOM’s CEO.  “We have shown that improving efficiency of maintenance cycles reflects directly on a fast and feasible ROI".

Wren Medical is excited to be on the forefront of the use of RFID in the health care arena.
